September 2005
Extremely rare: witchfinder general original first single "Burning a Sinner". On the "B side" is "Satans Children".
The record itself is in pristine condition and has only been played on 3/4 occassions (i'm not a metal fan). The sleeve is the original sleeve but this has aged somewhat with time (24 years old) and has yellowing around the edges and a few small stains on the back of the sleeve.
Interestingly; some history. I was the lead guitarist with the country band, the Jays, (as mentioned on the Phil Cope interview, on the bands website), that Phil Cope played bass guitar for, before he went on to form witchfinder general. I also knew phil well before then, as we also rubbed shoulders on the local cycle speedway tracks. We are still mates today, although i tend to see more of his parents, brian and shiela (a lovely couple), nowadays.
After phil left the "Jays" i intended to ask him to sell me his fender mustang bass and found that the little sod had already traded it in for his 1963 Gibson SG. !!!!! Pissed me off or what!!!!!!. Also, what isn't mentioned in the interview was the fact that phil stood in for us on bass, for a short time to help us out, sometime later and he brought a cheap but nice sounding small scale bass guitar which he later sold to me for £20.00, Which i still have to this day.
I loaned the band my "Carlsbro Custom P.A. amp" for their foldback monitors at thier first gig at the crown inn at dudley and cringed when i saw toss (McCready) jumping up and down on it!!!!!!. (See pic on the bands web site)
My digi cam is out of action so sorry, no pics, but a pic of both record and sleeve can be found on the bands web site, www.Witchfindergeneral.Com any questions just ask. Good luck

Hi Wendy, Many Thanks for the info, Fred of France also pointed this mistake out as well (thanks Fred). I thought I'd sent this reply to you once, but will do so now. I tried but could'nt alter the original text in the auction because it had an early bid put on it. I've added a note to the description now and I hope that helps. Give my regards to Steve (a legend in his own lifetime) and the rest of the lads if you see them around. Kind Regards. Jim T |

Hi Russ, You're right, Phil is a good lad and as aforementioned; we go back a long way. There is a little bit to tell of my time with Phil, to much to put here tho; and I wouldn't know how to access the website to tell everyone. The gig at the crown was amazing, LOUD, raw power, the smell of leather jackets and sweaty long haired bikers with that peculier scent what all bikers wear, mixed in with the smell of tobacco and reefer smoke; it was a heady mixture for a short haired git of a C&W fan like me (I kept getting strange looks). The sound of Phils Explorer drilling into my eardrums and simultaniously being hit full on in the chest with Johnnys Bass sound-waves that vibrated right through blood, flesh and bone and brick and morter then doing the same to the bloke behind me. Yep, bloody awesome. A good night even for a softi like me. Jim T |

There couldn't be a better time than now for Phil and the rest of the lads to make a comeback and reform Withchfinder General, especially now that they have a woldwide following. Given today's very much improved digital technology in the recording industry, I've absolutely no doubt the band would make it big time. I thought the band was let down by the poor quality recording techniques at the time; and their first single came no where near to what they sounded like live and did them no justice at all.
Phil put into the band what he put into his guiter playing, his heart and soul. As the lad said and very much understated in my opinion, he was absolutely gutted when the band broke up.
Next time I see him I will ask him to try to get the band together again, if only to record the material they had just prior to the bands break-up. Jim T
